How I Missed Being a Victim of Society

By:  Sandra Price

What’s the matter with me?  I do not take my values from the general population of people around me.  I keep hearing that the government should ignore the Constitution when it is good for Society.  Well, hell, if I don’t like this change, how can the white house be so sure that it (whatever) will benefit Society at all? Unless, of course it could buy votes.

Being a Libertarian I am often opposed to the government stepping in for my own good, at any time.  I am one person who could care less if the men living down the street are married or living in sin.  The statement that always follows this discussion is “Society tells us that marriage is only for one man and one woman.”  So what?

When abortion starts up again (as it does before every election) I give my own opinion that the size of one’s family should be up to the family.  The Federal government begins to fume over this and if the facts are known, they probably cause the need for abortions more than any other influence.

The combination of taxes on our salaries, on our utilities, cars, homes, on our books, has brought about a near poverty level for our young families.  The Federal Government, by allowing unskilled laborers to take the yard work and manufacturing jobs away from our young unskilled workers here, has cut into the incomes of many American homes.  Put the kids to work!  Children working?  Why not?  If the kids aren’t holding their own in our homes and spend their time tearing up the neighborhoods, then don’t have any more of these looters!!!

Then I read that the government wants more babies born to pay off the Social Security debt that they have allowed to grow; Society tells us we should obey!  I have to burp at that one!

I read all over the place that Society’s morals and values have fallen to a new low!  So what?   Mine haven’t!  I look around at my neighbors and friends and their morals and values haven’t changed in 60 years.

Could this be another move by the Federal government to force us into following their socially-engineered laws that would make us all Society’s cookie cutter dolls?

The next thing I have to try to understand is why Hollywood makes such awful films and television shows.  They tell me that their vulgar programs are Society driven and the movies are but a reflection of Society.  Where is this Society that is ruining our arts, music and even our live theater productions?

The final assault is this desire for a democracy that seems to be Society driven too.  Even the Republicans are screaming for more handouts from the government and always used the term “Society” demands that we deserve what is our due and then they run to the latest polls to prove their point.

Funny but my society tells me America is a Constitutional Republic and is not a democracy where society always has the last word.  Where did I go wrong?
