By: Sandra Price Ever since I went onto the internet I have been told that America is a Christian nation. Strange I had not picked this up in my former years and must admit to finding the concept very strange. We are now facing a major decision on this new ruling regarding the pledge to the flag. I think I have solved the problem and should calm down the masses of hysterical people who are revolting the decision to remove “under God.” As of this morning, President Bush is using this decision as his campaign agenda to get his judges confirmed and his Christian buddies elected into office. All’s fair in love and politics, right? If there is a God, I wonder how he/she feels about being relegated to a campaign issue! I would imagine he/she would be pissed! Now why would I say this? Think about it! Here’s my plan: Let’s go along with the concept that America is a Christian nation. Let’s turn over the elections to a delegation of churches to choose their leader and allow a couple of runoff elections until we have the choice down to two or three candidates. We won’t need campaign funding as the churches can handle the cost of their candidates. We can assign deacons to represent our congressional districts and our elections will be ready for the American voters to decide. Once we choose a leader, we can give up our public schools and allow Pat Robertson to assign the lessons daily on the television. Falwell is just waiting to handle the internet and we can save billions of dollars on the Federal Education programs that have failed us all for years. There will be no more discussion of using the word God on everything in our lives. Please notice I used the term “word of God” which of course eliminates having to actually believe in any God! We won’t need the American flag anymore as we will no longer be a Constitutional Republic. I made a banner years ago for a pageant featuring Joan of Arc, I will dig this up. Let’s see, it had a cross and I think a fish somewhere. I have to laugh at the religious right for fighting so hard to keep the 10 commandment words on all buildings and in all the classrooms. These are words folks and are never discussed anywhere. It is not necessary to believe the words but we must have them in front of us at all times. I told one miserable man that if he needed to review the commandments and they weren’t on a building near him, to email me as I had memorized them all when I was 10 years old! This is typical of the symbolism that is demanded by the religious folks in America. So let’s trade our constitution in for a full-fledged theocracy and be done with it! We can turn our Washington DC buildings into houses of worship! The one thing we cannot do is restore the spirituality of America. You can rubber stamp the word God all over the place and destroy the constitution and every damn thing our country has fought for in the last 230 years but you won’t bring a single truly religious thought or action back into this country or your lives. That has to come from the individual not the hysterical masses that I found yesterday on the Fox News channel. Another problem that can be solved by this new declaration that America is a Christian nation and that is the borders north and south of America. The border patrol will be needed in order to keep order when the majority of Americans leave the country. I will be the first to exit what America has become even though it was my suggestion. Freedom has been traded for a political campaign issue and that hurts me more than I can express! I love America but I do not respect what has happened in the last 30 years. Americans can no longer stand as tall as they did and our flag is being made into a symbol of weakness based on a simple 3 letter word. Time to move on; I only have 6 generations of Americans behind me; somehow I believe they would agree that America has lost its spirit and is being used as a football for the religious right. Terrible loss for the freedoms we have lost. Too bad we couldn’t keep them sacred! Okay Christians let’s see what you can do with our country. |
