March 2009 Political Mess
I read a commentary this morning on Capital Hill Blue quoting Martin Schram’s article about political party symbols. I believe it is not the symbols that are at fault, but the inability of each party’s lack of a firm platform.
I have always been a Republican until the end of President Reagan’s term and suddenly found myself worried that the GOP had changed from what I understood was their limited government, balanced budget and individual freedoms. It took the first and only term of President G.H.W. Bush 41 to end my membership in the GOP.
My memory went back to the loss of Goldwater in 1964 when the Rockefeller Country Club Republicans divided the party and lost the White House to L.B. Johnson. In 1988 the GOP took on the look of a global Empire and the Party could not continue under this form of empire building mess in the form of forcing Democracy in the Middle East. It was because of oil but sold as a form of helping the Middle East.
The voice of reason came in 1992 when H. Ross Perot tried to wake up the American people to the problems of allowing the deficit to grow out of control through uneven trade agreements and the government spending all Americans into a new high in debts. Perot spoke the truth but the voters could not vote out of the two-party system. The people did not want President Bush 41 back for a second term and Governor Clinton of Arkansas was elected.
During his eight years in the White House, a terrible power was building in the Republican Party changing the platform even further away from the party that most Republicans wanted. The GOP turned to the religious right to defeat any Democrat who ran in 2000.
The campaign in 2000 was a moral disaster when Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell and Paul Weyrich got their hands into the political power of the GOP. The prohibitions of abortion, gay marriage, stem cell research became the call for Governor G. W. Bush of Texas. Not a single memory of a limited government, a balanced budget could be found and certainly a threat of social conforms were threats from the new White House.
The power of corruption hit the federal government with a new force not seen in my lifetime. The Republican voters could not tolerate another Bush 43 and went for a new Senator from Illinois and welcomed Barack Obama with open arms. The GOP destroyed itself with leaders like Senator McCain and Governor Palin . Tacky ignorance replaced a balance budget during that race.
One would only assume the GOP would rethink their losses and return to the party that won their elections. They declared war against President Obama and did everything possible to discredit his citizenship and his moral actions. Without leadership in the GOP, the party fell to loudmouth fools like Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Bill O’Reilly and Glen Beck to spout classless threats about the new President Obama. I did not vote for Obama but I have become so offended by the GOP that I cannot even discuss politics rationally any more.
Under both parties in the last 20 years, we have lost the main thrust of our Constitution. The war between the RNC and DNC has brought a level of corruption so extreme that it will be a miracle if this nation can survive another 230 years. Blaming the National Committees is not a valid action and the voters must carry the blame. Had we kept the platforms clean and active, America would be a much safer nation.
Americans have become weak to the extreme and will always look to a higher being to solve their problems. If it is not God, it will be the White House. When the people refuse to grow within our developed brains, we will need to be told what we must not do.
Obviously neither party has a solution to a balanced budget and a reduction of debt and deficit. Neither party has a standard of ethics when it comes to allowing citizens to use ponzi-pyramid schemes against the law to scam billions of dollars from the investors. I remember asking about Enron and their abuse of their employee retirement funds and was told this should have been called to the attention of the Securities Exchange Commission. It made me ask “who is running the store?” and again it went directly to the White House.
Who was on duty on 9/11 when planes struck down 3000 innocent people? It came out during the commission report that the FBI had been warned about a strike from OBL hitting our buildings with aircraft. Who ignored these warnings? The White House. It doesn’t make any difference which party was on duty as the problem shows us that nobody was on duty. Most of us can understand a few mistakes now that the federal government is being asked to feed us, insure us, educate us and keep us from making morally bad judgments. We demand care and feeding from the crib to the grave and we are to accept corruption in return.
In case anyone is not paying attention, this demand for government laws is exactly how third world nations are run. The citizens become slaves to the system in order to be taken care of full time. We have turned over our individual freedoms for security that has turned on all of us. Easily one third of all Americans do know right from wrong but still need a minister-priest to remind them that adultery, ponzi schemes and stealing from others must be seen in writing and is why so many want these actions laid out as prohibitions. These same Americans cannot define their own sexual choices or even their choice of when to die when the agony of their sicknesses is too much. These Americans are told that falling in love with someone of the same sex is a mortal sin and should be banned. We are shunned as devil worshippers if we admit to not believing in any God.
If I had known that the Republican Party had to run on a pro-life agenda and had to believe in God without a belief in Evolution, I would never have ever voted for any Republican candidate. I will not do so in the future. I never voted for a Democrat as their agenda was government building programs assuming all Americans could not learn to take care of themselves.
I realize that today both parties want the government to tell them what they must not do and all individual freedoms must come from the government and that offends me deeply. My voter registration card has been burned and I will never again give a damn which crook takes over the White House or which emotional fool runs a discussion forum. Americans are turning our nation into a religiously insane power where the 10 Commandments are not enough to suit the power in the White House.
