I'm Mad As Hell 
(You Know the Rest...)

I have been a news junkie for nearly 50 years and when I discovered the Internet, I felt delighted that finally I could find good news coverage.  I have never found many people who share my love of news and politics and when I found the discussion forums I thought it was grand.  I would find a news story and share it with a dozen people and come to a conclusion that the story was good, or hogwash!

Thursday I went through my book marks and removed all the Conservative sites and said goodbye to all my pen pals on the forums.  Why?  Well, let me explain…

My first vote was for Ike.  He was my hero and all my Republican friends and family members showed me why Ike was the good guy and he should be our POTUS.  I went along with the GOP until I began to read some of the opinions of the Conservatives.  Ouch!  

America survived the scandals of FDR, JFK, Nixon, LBJ, WJC and now Condit.  We managed to live through T. Kennedy’s accident that killed a young girl.  We survived WW2, Korea, Vietnam and the peace actions that American soldiers helped to bring to a close.  We Americans have always carried around a feeling of love and respect for our country and pride for our families.  

Well, folks it’s over!  We are now a country of citizens that are being defined as criminal, wicked, immoral, and demoralized, unworthy people.  Our country was recently labeled as “A Superpower Sodom” and I am thoroughly pissed off!  When I read this article it gave me a chill in my soul.  I was hurt that any single intelligent person would write such claptrap.  After more thought, I got mad!

Who the hell is this arrogant writer who can throw insults and degrading comments about my American citizens?  The writer only represents a ground swell of terror that has taken over the Conservative movement.  Oh, yes it was started as the “moral majority” and gradually transformed itself into the “religious right.”  It has now become a movement that resembles the Inquisition.  It is the single most harmful movement in America since Communism.

Americans are not accustomed to this kind of rhetoric and fear spreading and so are likely to nod and agree that since Clinton and Condit can’t keep their pants zipped, we must indeed be on our way to complete degradation.  It is time to recognize this as fear mongering and stamp it out!

I am not a Christian, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist or any other label of faith; I am simply an American who has an overpowering love and respect for my country.  I have no interest in making America a Christian nation, as I know from my many years of reading that is it not!  I have been ordered out of the country by my latest group of Christian forum members.  They have stated loud and clear they will not stop until the country will be called “The United State of America – A Christian Nation!”  

The Americans that I have known all my life are the salt of the earth.  From the bombing of Pearl Harbor onward I have lived and loved the American people who gave so much to the communities and the country that it boggles the mind just thinking about it.

America is far from perfect.  We have been victims of our poor judgment in electing men who have turned a once good education system into chaos.  The parents have allowed social programs to take precedence over academics and the history of America to be ignored in their schools.  Our kids can’t read well enough to vote.  Yes, the parents are to blame for the failing schools. 

We have elected federal leaders who probably should have been booked for improper behavior.  In my day, the president was really just a figure head to represent the federal government.  After all, he made a pledge to serve and protect the Constitution so how could he hurt us?  The house and senate were asleep for 40 years and our leadership fell apart.  Our Constitution is a shell of its former power and we are in terrible debt and growing daily.  

At this point, we don’t need Elmer Gantry telling us all we are doomed to hell, we need a cheer leader to bring us back our spirit.  Can anyone ever imagine Ronald Reagan calling America “A Superpower Sodom?”  It’s out of the question…

We have a lot of things on our plate that need correcting.  I would like to start with the doomsayers and tell them to shut the hell up and start working on corrective measures.  We have a bunch of frightened parents who live in fear that the devil will get their kids if they are allowed to go to school or mingle with the neighborhood kids.  Well they may be doing us a favor in the long run.  The problem I see with this is when those sheltered kids hit college, they will have nothing to use in their own defenses.  They will look around in a state of shock and either become social misfits or indulge in the actions of the others.  They have my sympathy.  Part of training our kids is to show them how to handle the tough decisions that face them every single day.

The writer of this dreadful article dares to talk about Christian charity.  I wanted to slap his face and demand that he follow me to the Hospice meetings that I attend weekly and visit some of my patients and see the love and care that Hospice brings to the end of their lives.  It’s tough work and when a patient dies and the end of their long life finally ends, it can be heart wrenching.  But when the patient is a 30 year old mother of three it is a tragedy. 

When I see the President kowtowing to the Pope about stem cell research I see red!  Damnit Bush come and see me and I can show you young people dying of diseases that can be cured or prevented by scientific research.  Besides, I’m the one you will ask to pay for it.  The kicker here is that I’m the one labeled immoral.  

When I read the Conservative articles and the discussion forums I’m witnessing a movement on the internet that will kill the spirit of America if left unchallenged.  I can’t stop it but I can recognize it!  

Is there a Ronald Reagan out there somewhere who can restore the spirit back in America before it is completely destroyed by the conservative moralists???
