"Goodbye and Good Luck"

By:  Sandra Price

Before I retired from working, I had taken some computer classes and set up my first IBM system for the purpose of taking minutes of the meeting for our Symphony orchestra. It took some time to learn how to type the documents, print them up and then find them again.

I was hooked up to the internet and learned all the tricks of emailing, copying and pasting and it opened a world of communication that was thrilling. Those who preceded me online soon furnished me with many links of subjects that interested me. Politics has always been a strong focus and now I had access to the opinions of the whole picture. I had used 3" x 5" cards in the past to follow this information from coast to coast and now I had the ability to communicate with all the voters and commentators.

My political insight to those candidates who worked for individual rights was keen and I worked for many candidates who wanted a smaller government and my point of view was now open for discussion. My last big election where I walked the streets and did mailings to everyone I knew was in 1964 and my man was Barry Goldwater. I should have been more aware that the voters in America were heading into a desire for Socialism when L.B. Johnson got a huge percentage of the votes. I guess I figured it was fluke. I know now that it was simply a message to all of us who wanted a limited government that it will never happen.

The political discussion forums introduced me to the message that the world of freedom that I had learned about did not exist and possibly never had. Even the most Republican groups were searching for government legislation to control the choices of all Americans. Our federal government had been given full control over the states including the actions of the people themselves. I became a strong force for individual rights on the forums and was blown apart as being a foolish old woman. It was the ugliest part of my life.

Every day I posted and wrote and read, I realized that Americans cannot make their own decisions and were not supposed to try. After the elections of Bush/Clinton/Bush it was obvious the federal government was in full control over the Constitution and the State laws.

It also became apparent that the government leaders wanted a global government where America would head up another world Empire. To do this, another group of wars were arranged and again our young men and women were being sent into battle to win a war based on "terrorism." I smelled a rat through the entire Bush 43 term of office and was not all that shocked at 911. There had been a lot of energy on the internet that we had enemies and they wanted us out of their lands. I was stunned at how the internet people accepted the words of our Administration that they were caught unaware of the attacks. Apparently none of them recognized the Embassies that had been bombed or the USS Cole had lost 17 men and the first attack on the Twin Towers should have sent a message to the White House.

Our new President was focused on issuing Federal grants to the churches, how to prohibit abortions, and how to ban gay marriages. Not even after 911 did the full force of the atrocities of the situation make a dent in the White House. A wave of lies and manipulations came spewing out and we were expected to get over the loss of our Americans again. Once was not enough for the White House and it became painfully clear that they were profiting from the wave of terror running through America.

I give up! My nervous system is shot, my respect for my own nation is gone and my opinions of the people of America has hit bottom. I will no longer beat a dead horse. My own Republican Party has dissolved into a huge movement to set moral standards for all Americans. When I question this authority I am told that I must be Liberal and should be working for actions by Americans to be limited according to the bible and the Bill of Rights be damned! If I were truly a moral person I should have no problem with bringing a prohibition against sins into the government. I was told that my working for individual freedoms and choices made me an un-American liberal. I give up.

I can't blame the religious right for trying to control the Constitution, but a do blame the Americans who are working to make it happen.

Starting in 2007, I will rid my life of the internet and any possible interest in the federal government in America. I simply cannot tolerate the people of this great nation working for its destruction. I will sever all my associations with anyone who is working to remove even one small choice for the people of America.

I want my life back where I can enjoy my working for the development and promotion of the arts; visual and musical. I'm tired of spending my decreasing energies trying to promote freedom that people do not want. I will probably have only email input and nothing else. It is only a matter of time before America fails and my days of working with Hospice are over and since there is nothing I can for America, I will pull the plug on public opinion here in my own home.
