I DON'T WANT TO BE A DEMOCRAT!

By:  Sandra Price

Come on Republicans get with the party platform program.  This new Christian Conservative movement has divided American Republicans into scattered groups that are no where even close to the Republican party found in America ever since the Civil War.

I cut my political teeth on “Ike” and we praised his ability to finish up WW2 in many ways that made him the hero of the decade.  His bravery was recognized by all of us who had lived through the reports from the European fighting fronts.  He was exactly the kind of man we wanted to lead our country through the reconstruction of our enemies and a new attitude in Washington D.C.

Sure the party went through a tough period when Nixon proved to be nothing more than a frightened leader who slipped into spying on the Democrats.  It was time for the GOP to develop a leader who could build the party up to the point that it wouldn’t make any difference what the opposition was planning.

Many of us who had worked for Reagan during the years of the Goldwater campaign and saw his leadership during his years as Governor of California saw a man who absolutely adored America and all the people who made up the country.  In my opinion, the Reagan years ended the Republican leadership as the man who followed him (President Bush 41) had no clue what American Independence stood for and immediately began to plan his “One World Order.” Of course he got defeated!  This was the beginning of the end of the GOP.

But the GOP found some teeth in 1994 when somebody suddenly remembered the old GOP mantra of “limited government, individual liberties, and person responsibilities” and put together the “Contract with America” to return the power of the government back to the people.  That was the light at the end of the tunnel under the Clinton years.

I think we can blame Clinton for bringing out the religious right who had been a quiet, non-voting part of society for generations, and after the bopping of women openly and even while on the phones in the Oval Office talking to heads of state in other nations.  The man was an openly promiscuous Don Juan of politics.  The GOP should have simply been reminded of the years of JFK and other bopping Presidents but somehow this was all they could come up with to destroy a Democrat in the White House.  The GOP had given up building a strong party that could overlook the weaknesses of the President.

Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson began to stir the silent Christians to empower anyone who was a Christian to run for office regardless whether they had a clue what was in the U.S. Constitution.  They also stirred up the under belly of the Evangelicals and Fundamentalists to enter into the political scene and bring their congregations into the voting booths.

I’ve been involved in politics for 50 years and have known that religious fanatics don’t vote and that was just fine for the rest of us who made serious efforts to read up and learn the platforms of our candidates and of the Democrats.

It used to be so simple!

Democrats wanted more government programs to help Americans who would not help themselves.  They talked of a redistribution of wealth to take care of anyone who had not bothered to develop any skills for their own income.  They wanted free education to be designed by the Federal Government and have all American children to have the same level of academics.  This started a program that soon developed into a even dumbing down of all Government school students.

Republicans wanted less government, less involvement from the government into our schools, our private enterprise and our theme song was Free Enterprise Capitalism and last but not least, the lack of involvement into our private lives.  When the GOP spoke of “limited government, individual liberties and personal responsibilities” they damned well meant it!  They wanted those 12 years of free education to actually mean the kids would be skilled enough after graduation to enter colleges, universities and trade schools or use what they had learned to find work.

Our current Administration almost immediately (2000) decided to fund faith-based organizations and issue them grants taken from the taxes of the hard-working working men and women in America.  Prior to the next election 2004, he actually requested that the preachers, ministers of the American Christian churches hand over their membership lists to the Republican National Committee.  The message want out (call it payback for money) to all Ministers to have their members vote for Bush as he was a Christian and could be trusted to work for them in addressing all their moral values problems.

Moral Values became the mantra for the 2004 election and most of us couldn’t figure out whether the voters wanted better moral values from D.C. or just to have the government nail them down with legislation for their neighbors.  No Christian will ever admit to being lacking in moral values but everyone else is lacking in ethics and morals.

For a solid year I heard that America is a Christian Nation and we all must work together to keep it strong.  Keep what strong?  The hypocrisy that abortions, adultery, domestic violence was higher in the bible belt than even in California?    When the DNA was being recorded after babies were born in their hospitals, why did it have to stop?  Could it be that the DNA from the father didn’t match the baby?  We could never get this information out to the Christians of America, as it might make them look bad!

Is there anyone with a rational mind that can’t see the fallacy of the religious right?  Their words do not reflect their actions.  What causes this disconnect with reality?  Could it be 50 years of watching television and believing that actors are really their roles?  Could it be too many years of watching Jim Bakker and Oral Roberts and all the rest of the evangelical telemarketing preachers?  Is the problem the lack of education within the voters?  I have seriously tried to understand this blind belief that someone like President Bush 43 would actually tell us the truth and rule the country as an American instead of a Christian?

I have no problems with Christians until they start messing with the Constitution!  President Bush is doing just that.  His input from the Fundamentalists has caused him to view Americans as either Christians or infidels.  He has divided up the GOP against women and gays.  In other words, he changed the GOP into a party for white, straight Christian men.

I backed President Bush 100% when going into Afghanistan and destroying the Taliban but he left me cold when he decided to take out Saddam by using our service men and women.  He must have known it would be a killer of our armies.  If he didn’t know he had not read the hundreds of books on Islam.  Did he really think that destroying a country would control hundreds of years of Islamic terrorism?  Or was it the start of a world wide holy war?  With only the input from the fundamentals I can see where he would think another crusade was in his power.

But, I don’t give a damn about Iraq and their multiple religions.  I don’t care if they all kill each other and their neighbors too.  I do care about Israel and feel we could help them out through foreign aid but why we are funding the Palestinians is ridiculous.  I’m not certain if Bush actually recognizes who the enemies of America are.  Millions of Republicans are not behind his desire to bring a democracy to the whole damn planet when our domestic problems have tripled since he took office.

I don’t believe President Bush has ever read the Constitution and has no clue what the Amendments mean.  He has single-handedly destroyed the 4th, 10th and other Amendments with his legislation putting the federal government over nearly all of our personal freedoms.  He has just begun!!!

The GOP now stands for big government with total control over the American citizens.  Why?   How can the basic GOP even consider what he is doing to America?  Is the power of the White House so great that all ethics and moral values are traded for power?  There are a lot of us out here in the hinterlands who are discouraged with the GOP and the whole Administration for selling us all out for world power.  I guess the New World Order has more clout that the American citizen.

When I see who President Bush is pushing for POTUS in 2008, I will have no choice but to search for a Democrat who can bring back the balance of power in America.  I am working to rid our congress of the two-faced spenders that currently are collecting checks for destroying our American principles.

Where is Ross Perot when we need him?  We need a man to head up a third party who knows the Constitution from top to bottom and can restore the damage that the last two Administrations have done to our budgets, reputations abroad and home, and start telling us the truth about everything that happened during their reign of power.

Honesty – integrity – honor – truth – fiscal responsibility to the tax payers!  Is there no one in America who can restore our faith in our government?

In 1992 after Perot was defeated I became a Libertarian and found they were not serious in their campaigns and never would be.  Don’t make me join the Democratic Party…….please!

Is there no voice of freedom and liberty left in America?  President Bush is using those two words in all of his speeches, at this time, and must have discovered they had been lost since the days of his father’s presidency.  Well, he is should learn the meanings of those words and get off the backs of the American People and leave us to our own lives.  We really don’t want a dictatorship!  I do not want another tyrant leading America.
