By: Sandra Price I am seriously looking for the answer to this question. It seems to me that Americans are no longer able to think their problems out on their own but want some mystical or real person to take the responsibility of setting cultural and moral codes for them. I am very pro-choice on all subjects of social issues that face us and our children daily. What many people don’t understand is that being pro-choice also gives us the option of joining into groups that agree with us. The most obvious choices are social habits (drinking, drugs, fatty foods and even abortion and pornography.) Asking a source (whether God or President Bush) to guide us with rules and regulations being from the bible or from the constitution only builds in a failure mechanism that we seem to need to keep from taking the blame on our own shoulders. Most of us were raised with the rules of our family, rules of the schools we attended and then rules of the road when we learned to drive. When we become adults we know that killing, stealing, lying in a court room are all against the law with penalties and prison just waiting for us. The argument is always just below the skin as to where these rules originated. I believe they are man made after years of civilizations trying to grow into a group of safe communities. Many others feel these rules came from God! We all have seen that many countries have their own rules and regulations and American founding fathers merely took what they needed for a free country and gave the rest to the individual states. This is considered FREEDOM with a capital “F” and is losing ground every time the house and senate meet. I would imagine that our daring and brilliant founding fathers are disgusted with what they have seen happen to their plans. The internet is full of Americans who have lost control of their families, schools, drugs infiltrating into their neighborhoods and have decided to give the rest of their freedoms back to Washington DC in hopes the Supreme Court will fix the problems. Many families have decided that too much influence from the television, movies, magazines and classrooms fixating on sex have caused the problems. They head to their local political conventions and demand that Washington DC step in and DO SOMETHING! These same people claim the problem is that God is dead in America and therefore these same people throw up their hands and claim Armageddon is starting! This is the built-in failure that the people of America have developed to keep from taking back their responsibilities! They have claimed in loud voices that they, in fact, need Big Daddy to guide them. Before we allow these sad people to demand that God be elected President and make America a Christian Nation we should start taking a closer look at exactly what made this country greater than all others. It is the only country in the world where INDIVIDUALISM is considered a pre-requisite to FREEDOM. I receive hundreds of letters from people who have given up any thought of individual thought or any chance at returning to the freedoms that we fought for in so many wars. I realize that many homes do not have an official “head of the household” and their children are free-wheeling the neighborhoods and schools ending up as ill-informed cattle herds. Looking to Washington DC for solutions is only asking for more and more direction that will take the rest of our freedoms and bring America to it knees as just another socialistic country. Many organizations have formed under various names to attempt to get these freedoms back and return the social choices to the family. The Libertarians started out to strike a homerun for freedom but sadly missed the boat because the party offered nothing of value to the voters but freedom and obviously that was not enough! I think that many Americans thought the 2000 election would return our illusion of freedom back to the citizens but sadly it seems to have built an agenda on bringing God into all the legislation programs. Nothing wrong with this if everyone in America was a Christian and wanted a Theological government. We are not and we don’t! I have researched a lot of these freedom-loving libertarian groups and found them rather useless and shallow. But what is amazing is the reaction that many Conservatives and Liberals have to these groups and apparently despise the thought of a limited federal government. I found a group who wants to try out a new concept of a volunteer movement to find an area where we could experiment with the original concept of freedom that our founding fathers wanted. We are searching for a county or small area where we could live without the federal rules that are so intrusive in our lives that our parents and children feel stymied in their development. This is based loosely on the “valley” mentioned in Atlas Shrugged and we want to start with 20,000 volunteers to give it a go. We have no location planned as we are still in the planning stages but we all agree that the federal government is overstepping its constitutional rights on every one of us who live in America. Our greatest critics come from the Conservatives and Liberals who have stated clearly they are more than eager to correct our present federal problems with more laws. This is unacceptable to me and my desire is to find leadership that will eliminate the unconstitutional laws not add to them. I am still researching this group and will bring information to Ether Zone as soon as I can validate their claims. If anyone is interested in their URL, email me and I will send it off to you but note that I have not become an official member of the group at this time. |
