By: Sandra Price I joined up with the Republicans again for the first time since 1992 when I first discovered they had no plans to serve the right side of the aisle. I considered myself a Conservative with great hopes of finding a limited and ethical federal government. I couldn’t put my finger on what was wrong with President Bush (41) until I began to listen to Ross Perot. Sitting through 30 minutes of Perot’s explanations of what America should be doing I discovered I wanted nothing to do with the present form of Republican Government. Too much global governance, too much United Nations and way too much taxing the middle classes and sending our tax money to 3rd world nations who hated our guts. I also found the intrusive invasion of our family plans way too much government for me, so I went with Perot and then with the Libertarian Party until his year. I was so put off by the GOP that I didn’t even vote for President Bush (43). He represented a form of Socialism that I found totally offensive. He wanted to arrange and control our family and social laws from Washington DC and no way did I want that. To me, having the abortion issue coming from the most corrupt group of men and women ever seen in our house and senate was too much for me to consider. I have and will always make my own decisions, thank you. Being impressed with the way President Bush (43) has handled the war on terrorism brought me back into the fold and I joined no less then 3 Republican clubs. These men and women are very issue oriented and I have yet to hear the word abortion from their lips. Aha, could it be we could find a middle ground to work together at last? I certainly hope so! Two issues have suddenly got me wondering if I did the right thing. The first was the Toogood beating of her 4 year old daughter. With a little research I discovered the Irish Gypsies and what they had been doing to seniors in America since the early 1990s. They are basically looters and thieves who pop in and out without leaving anything behind but don’t steal enough to make it worth chasing them down. Well, they have gone too far. Apparently Montana and several other states have a list of crimes that the Toogood family has run from. Had they done this 100 years ago a bounty hunter would be gathering up the whole family and bringing them to justice. Today on several conservative sites they want us to leave poor Mrs. Toogood alone and let her take her children and go home. Whipping kids is good for them. 3 different sites have made these statements. The problem with that to me is that the entire family are looters and those 3 children will be trained to loot and steal just like their parents and grandparents. The second issue that got to me this week was several statements made on the selfishness of Chris Reeves and Nancy Reagan for wanting stem cell research to be continued. It seems to be a conservative opinion that had these people not been personally involved they would never have made a plea to President Bush to keep the research going! Now that I think back about my affiliations with many charities that I worked so hard to promote and raise funds for, few were members of what is now considered a Conservative party. I belonged to a large group of small charities called “The Collaboration” and I was quite surprised how few people on the mailing lists were not a part of my own Republican membership. Could I have discovered something here this morning? Could it be that the compassionate conservatives are simply a group of anti-abortionists looking for a political party? The same anti-abortionists who have admitted bombing and burning the Planned Parenthood clinics? I have always called them terrorists and knew they were religious fanatics but didn’t put them in the Conservative Republican category. I had some hints but I figured that Conservative Republicans were big at law and order. I have stated since 1964 that I am a Goldwater Fiscal Conservative with a strong pull towards a limited and ethical federal government. Is there any chance at trying to get the Republican party anywhere near what I want? Have we been so anxious to pander to the people of America that we have lost our desire for a better country, a cleaner government and a freer people? To me these social conservatives are nothing but a dangerous cult. I read their articles, involve myself in their discussion forums and I have to tell you a nastier bunch is hard to find anywhere. I am encouraged by the two prominent Republican groups that I belong to at this time, they are focused on government improvement and putting together some fabulous fiscal plans that can work for everyone. If anyone belongs to the Conservative cults, they have kept their ugly statements to themselves. Hey, I registered to vote in the Grand Old Party in 1954 and have been a proud Republican since that time. All of a sudden I am exposed to such horrible interpretations of what this new Conservative group wants that I, like 7,000,000 other members of the GOP left for other parties or simply stayed home and didn’t vote in the last 2 or 3 major elections. Is there any chance at getting back to the roots of the Fiscal Conservative Republican party that we want or am I going to have to return to the Libertarians to feel free in America? I want to continue with President Bush with his ability to conquer terrorism but I don’t want to trade my hard-earned freedoms to do it. The social conservative cults don’t belong in our government and President Bush should give up his social engineering plans for our American families. |
