Corruption, Greed, and Lies

By:  Sandra Price

For most of my life, I saw our many-levels of government running their positions for the betterment of the majority of the people. When I heard rumors in the middle fifties that the President FDR knew in advance that Pearl Harbor would be bombed, it was more than I could comprehend. I saw a massive increase in federal programs and of course the Military Industrial Complex started. I chalked it off to the President being a Democrat and therefore not totally honest with the people. I did not realize that this lack of honesty was part of the both political parties.

I began working in several corporations until I got married. This was the beginning of my knowledge that the products or services within these corporations were filled with cut-throat actions of the employees and the corporations paid the price for the undercurrent of greed. I had studied Capitalism and how it benefited everyone involved in the employment and investment of a profitable endeavor. It took teamwork! The endgame was obvious and the individual players were not altogether honest and were out for their own advancement to the detriment of the corporation and others in the workplace.

In my own years, I have seen corruption that has destroyed many corporations and even the charitable organizations that relied on donations. The worse offenders were the churches who abused their tax status by getting involved in politics. In the many books I have read, the Vatican may be the most corrupt group on the earth. I know many Catholics who have little knowledge of the history of the Vatican and shut their minds to anything that would cast a shadow on the words of any Pope.

My going onto the internet in the mid 1990’s was a cultural shock that there was an element of corruption, greed and lies from the American people who were blasting their own opinions throughout the internet. I also found that few had researched their opinions and were simply repeating the lies they picked up from our free press and free radio.

The final straw of corruption came with the religious right who made their move into the Republican Party. I first saw this corruption appear when I attended the Birch Society meetings in the 1960s and could not believe the lies they told to build up terrorism in the American people. It started out that Communists were going to destroy our American values. The answer was to change the Federal Government to remove our individual freedoms to stop the Communism. I laughed at this and stopped going.

Today we have the Neoconservatives with the same backing from the religious right who fills our days and nights with the terrorism of Islam. The people paid little attention until 9/11. The reaction to 9/11 has destroyed the American people far worse than the actual attack. It has become a Crusade to destroy the religion of the Middle East and the amount of lies, greed and corruption from our own federal government has been horrific.

This has happened before but the American people always recognized the lies and corruption until this time. Our own government has reacted with little attention to this silly threat that we need Big Daddy to protect us from the evil Islamic believers. But not enough to close our borders…..

Demanding the truth from our government brings on laughter from the people. We have become so used to the government taking control of our individual rights and actions that millions of people refuse to see the truth. It is easier to back the government’s actions even when they are in conflict with the Constitution.

I have read all the books warning the people to keep the government under the control of the people and not let it be the end result of our culture. My problem at this time is that the people don’t give a damn. My own friends on the internet have shown no clue in seeing what is right and what is wrong. The trust in the government has removed their rational brains and they will die for the American Federal Government.

I now see individual Americans turning into gangs of trouble makers trying to destroy the words and actions of others. These are the basic Social Conservatives who were raised on Christian doctrines that all other doctrines must be destroyed. I even attended a revival meeting and saw these evil people in person with their list of infidels that must be destroyed.

It is one thing to carry a belief in God and another to destroy the words of the non-believers especially when it involves political actions. This movement for Jesus Christ has shown millions of us that they do not know right from wrong. It is open warfare to force their God on the rest of the nation. The personal attacks have shown most Americans that these people are corrupt. It has thrown a blanket of corruption over our elections and in 2008 it seems as if the truth is no longer right and the corruption and manipulation is rampant in our nation.

All levels of our government on both sides of the aisle are now using their positions to dig up the lives of our candidates. When the Pentagon, CIA, FBI and the Justice Department are showing a lack of honesty, it is time to pull the plug. Is it the fault of the Democrats or Republicans or is it the fault of the American voters who do not know right from wrong? Are we voting for the candidates chosen by our clergy? our unions? or are we too lazy to elect new blood to take an oath to the Constitution? Is there a single American left who knows right from wrong or have we all been manipulated to be influenced by the words of others and we do not bother to check the values before we vote?

The election of 2008 has shown that Americans as a whole are bigots, racists and homophobes. This is not the problem from the government but the problem of the ignorant parents who program their children to hate and yet do not care what they learn in schools. Freedom is word we only hear on SNL and the Daily Show. This is not a political problem but a problem in the American home. We will get the government we want. We will lose the government that our founders formed. The fight it too big for me; I know what we are losing in our free enterprise capitalism and I am worn out trying to convince anyone to keep it as a part of our freedoms.

I was born in the early 1930s and was very much aware of the Federal Government’s actions during and after WW2. The minute our government found profits in war, America was doomed. Korea, Vietnam and now Iraq has made billions of dollars for the Military Industrial Complex and killed more American soldiers than is imaginable. We are not finished as there are still other nations to destroy and more billions to be made by the investors of the MIC.

The majority of the American people have been terrified by their churches to be in a position of begging for forgiveness for their sins. The whole concept of not sinning is missing and therefore millions of Americans have forgotten that wrong words and actions hurt millions of other people. I was fortunate to have been exposed to Dr. Hayakawa in his extension class at UCLA in the late 1940s and his emphasis on connection of words and actions hit home with me and exposed the hypocrisy of most of my associates in the working place and at home.

Is it religion or apathy that has done damage to the American mind? Do we wander around looking for the easy road instead of searching it for deadly rocks? Have we given up searching for the right and honest actions or do we believe anything can be forgiven; so why bother?

The American voters are no longer able to determine right from wrong and it shows in their choice of candidates. We will continue to be bigots, racists and be unable to reject corruption. I will give no more thought to American politics, as to be honest; the American people aren’t worth the effort.
