Capitalism

By:  Sandra Price

What ever happened to Capitalism? I keep reading that it is somehow evil as it exploits the laborers in America. I was told that Capitalism should be focused on how to make a better nation and should not promote profit and wealth but concentrate on the middle class and share all profits with the people. In the last 40 years, the word "profit" is evil, wicked and bad. I believe that most people can see this as a redistribution of wealth. Americans are not well read enough to see the danger of trying to do this using the power of the government.

The phrases like profits must be made "for the betterment of everyone" and "it must benefit society" came right out of the Communistic Manifesto and now has been accepted by the American voters. If anyone has ever sat through the long discussions in the House and Senate, these phrases can be found in the center of all bills. It used to be the Democrats that would scream "Corporation profits must be contained and a limit set on the salaries of all Executives." This started long before the CEOs of so many corporations stole the retirement funds from their employees. Now the Republicans want the whole system to come under Government control. Oy

What I am reading comes from the Republican base of the current administration. Suddenly they all want the government to control every dime a corporation shows as a profit. The new Republicans are now responsible for the largest growth of Federal Government ever in the history of America. It is no secret that the Bush Administration has allowed corruption to go out of control. They now want to rein it in and turn all authority over to the Federal Government. I get the impression that they no longer know the difference between right and wrong and moral ethics are something found in a barroom somewhere in the center of Washington D.C.

I'm not saying that the President of the United States sets the moral ethics for all Americans but it would be wonderful if he could run the country under some level of truth and trust. The American people realize the lack of ethics and values in our current administration and want to demand that the federal government fix it! We have not seen a workable political oversight worth a damn since Reagan left office and a wave of neocons whose sights were set on building an American Empire. Did they realize it would be the downfall of Corporate America? Yes, I believe they did.

I remember the days of having a choice of great Corporations who were willing to hire all kinds of people (even girls) and they offered fabulous benefits to draw in the best of the lot. We would all take a good look at things like the product, the customer service, the benefits, location and salary. Did we have a shot at buying into the company itself? Were we given parking spots, etc. I realized in my early 20s that it was not necessary for me to start my own business and could invest in the companies for which I worked. I had a family and wanted time spent with them over giving 100% of my time and energy to a single company.

I was able to start an investment portfolio and what was left over, I invested in real estate. My family needed a place live and we found several homes that proved to be a great investment. Would I have invested in any corporation where the federal government set the limits of their profits? Hell no! Would I have invested in any corporation where the profits of my labors went to people who never worked a single day for their income? Absolutely not! Would I have invested in property where rent control was enforced? Hell No! I chose to work for the best and invest back into the company and take care of my own charities.

In those days I was a loyal Republican and the level of corruption we have today may have been there but it didn't show. It was not flaunted by our leaders as it is today. I swear another Enron shows up and Bush looks into the camera with a sneer and an arrogant chuckle as if to say "so what?" The great and powerful Halliburton has been exposed as furnishing bad water and products to our service men and nothing is done to stop them. They have misplaced millions of tax payer's dollars and they sneer their arrogance over all of us and dare us to prove anything. This is a direct result of a corruption so evil in our government to be shocking to even visitors of the country.

Okay I can live with a corrupt government as long as our American Corporations are above the corruption. What? They aren't? How deep is this corruption in our individual lives? Has it reached all of us trying to live in America at this time? Don't we still pay our taxes and live within the laws of our states? What? We don't? Have we lost our pride in America? Apparently we have or we would hold the feet of our elected officials over a burning oil enriched fire.

Have we been told that since we elected President Bush 43 we no longer have the rights offered in the 1st Amendment, the 4th Amendment or the 10th Amendment? Have we now found ourselves without borders? I do know that President Bush 41 and 43 assisted in destroying the Republican Party and replaced it with some half-assed Religious movement that took us into a war based on lies. To keep up the illusion of leadership he sports around in Air Force One telling us all to conserve oil and gas. So much for the GOP.

Where does this leave the rest of us? I always had Capitalism in my sights feeling as long as the stock market allowed for free enterprise our country would survive. What was overlooked in the last 40 years was the education of the next generations to understand the value of our Capitalism.. I wish I had a dime for every time I heard that Capitalism is evil and must be destroyed.. The Republican Party has done nothing to restore the strength of our Corporations and has designed trade agreements making American Corporations pay more for our exports than China pays for our imports. Supply and Demand are gone from the argument. Those corporations who have stayed in America are being exploited by federal mandates making it impossible to show a legal profit. They have resorted in using laborers brought in by illegal trucks and who can blame them? I know of many American manufacturers who are moving their plants south of the border just to keep the company solvent.

I realize we have a bad President who has appointed bad choices. But my question is what the hell is wrong with the House and Senate? Where are the Republican family jewels? Are they only focused on abortions and gay marriages? Is this what the President of the United State has mandated to them? Is this what we returned to D.C. in 2004? Are the American voters no longer able to understand right from wrong? Have we been sold on the concept that only Christians can be trusted in power?

I can see no reason for our government to continue in this way. Everyday our current White House, House and Senate keep ignoring our problems, we fall further in debt basically because our American voters believe Capitalism is evil. So let them see how fast their jobs will disappear when they manage to destroy the last American Corporation left in our country. By all means have the first amendment remove the freedom of lobbyists and let the government decide which contracts are issued. Allow the federal government to finance and plan all elections so campaign finance laws can be eliminated. Allow the federal government to decide how much health care we really need. Let them tell us when we need medical care. We don't need individual choices any more, not with Big Daddy taking care of us all. We will lose the authority to decide how many children we can afford and the government will issue a number to us the day we are born telling us how long we can live. Our private schools will be mandated to teach only Christian doctrine, because America must be declared once and for all a Christian Nation. Our children who happen to be gay will be declared second class citizens and will have to return to the closet if they have any hopes of working for the government. What a Paradise America will be. Fallwell, Robertson, Dobson and maybe even Fred Phelps will be in hog heaven at the voters who want them firmly in place destroying our choices.

So to me, the destruction of Capitalism is just the first step to living in this American Paradise. I can see with the rise in the population, our own babies will be given a number on a card promising them a place in line for a possible job. The balance of power is only a good thing when the voters realize the problems of extremism. At this time, they are on a religious kick and want the 10 commandments to replace the Bill of Rights.

I've lost all respect for America since 1992. There are only a small select group of people who can look at what we have done in America and try to fix it. I say let it go! Let the people destroy the whole system and riot in the streets. Let our manufacturing base get out of Dodge and find facilities elsewhere. I keep hoping that select group will be able to pick up some of the pieces and form individual states again and stay the hell out of the gathering up of any federal government. My only question is "where the hell are you?"
