Is there anyone on this planet that doesn't know how and where we pick up the AIDS virus? Our Government and hundreds of other groups are spending billions of dollars trying to find a cure. We must face the sad facts that we may never find one.

Medical science has made great progress in learning how to control the symptoms and can lengthen the lives of many who have contracted this disease. This progress does not address the fact that it is still a disease that is highly contagious and can be spread by body fluids infecting even the most careful of the population. Please don't send me any more descriptions of anal sex. AIDS is no longer a gay disease but a human one. In trying to research this problem, I have been inundated with people who call it a moral dilemma and not a medical one.

I correspond with many members of the religious right and I feel they cannot face reality that not all moral issues are sexual in nature. Cheating, lying, trying to buy votes, bringing immigrants to America for the purpose of a political majority, training folks on how to screw up the voting booths are all examples of non-sexual amoral actions.

In about 3 paragraphs the moral issues become lists of sins and of course, any further discussion of how to repair our problems goes right out the window. So, lets get off the pulpit and start searching for a solution to what is facing America at this time.

AIDS started out as a sexually related disease. Okay, it was started by an over-zealous sex fiend who picked up this killer from Africa and brought it to America. There has been a theory that Africa picked up the virus from eating monkey meat.

It was announced by our authorities that AIDS was caused through sexual activity! Excuse me, my in my mind, every American should have rejoiced that we all knew what caused this disease. When the source of the disease was discovered that should have been the end of it.

Now the morality of the problem is necessary to address. Why did, and do, thousands of Americas still engage in sexual activity? There is no such thing as "safe sex" and we all know it. We must face the fact that their health and welfare is of no real importance. Why? Why do we allow our teachers in school to show a kid how to put a condom on a banana? Jocelyn Elders should have been taken out and shot! instead of encouraged. Why did the parents of these little kids allow this to continue? So we have already two "whys" to address.

The federal government made a decision not to allow the American public to have access to the growing list of AIDS patients that were contaminating many young and old people. The very thought of allowing the innocent people of America to not realize that body fluids were spreading the killer by blood transfusions, getting dirty needles to infect many health care workers and drug users can be directly attributed to the government's responsibility.

You talk about reparations, how about the innocent men and women who were infected by known AIDS carriers? That's another problem I have with my federal government. They are selective in their discussions, and any controversial health problem is not a high priority. They should publish their findings and get the hell out! If this had been left up to the communities, we could have saved many lives.

Even though the fastest growing group to become infected is women over 65, I would like to keep my focus on the kids.

Supposing our kids are born without the AIDS virus, what are we doing to keep them safe from being exposed to the disease? Thank you President Clinton, oral sex is now the sex of choice in our schools. This is absolutely a disease spreader! Do our kids know this? Do the parents?

Parents, please tell me you are addressing this problem in your parent's meetings! Please tell me you are turning off the filthy television shows that drag the self-esteem from your kid's minds.

Actions needed immediately

  • Talk to your kids and your neighbor's kids and tell them without emotion that only they can keep themselves healthy! Talk to the teachers that have your kids for many hours each day that they too, must bring this subject up at every chance they get. Scare the hell out of them, if you have to!

  • If your kids attend Sunday school walk, don't run, to your minister to ask him to hit this problem as hard as he can! Whatever we say to our kids must be reinforced by their teachers and Sunday school teachers.

  • Get together with your neighbors and let them know you are going to be very tough on this problem. Remember folks, this is no longer a gay disease and hasn't been for years. The minute you start gay bashing, your kids will walk away from you. They have been told this is the wrong approach and I agree.

My personal observation on this problem is that this is the ultimate IQ test. The survival of the fittest and all the other explanations of why some survive and others don't. It is also only part of a list that every parent must address.

  • If a child drives too fast on a freeway, he/she could die in an accident.

  • If a child drinks too much alcohol, he/she could die of alcohol poisoning.

  • If a child is introduced to heavy drugs, he/she will end up as dead as a doornail.

  • If a child plays around with any kind of transference of body fluids, he/she is playing with a loaded gun that might mean a long painful death. Ahem, this means kissing too.

We need to gather up many American parents and teachers to discuss this problem immediately. Any comments from my readers will be accepted and answered. Let's keep an open dialog going on this.
